Trapped Between Boarders - The Sri Lanka Butterfly

Tiffin Green-Hall

I began life quietly — almost unnoticed — like a small white dot set against green, growing in the warmth of what appeared to be a loving home. For a time, I was protected, contained, unaware of how fragile that safety truly was. Eventually, the walls around me could no longer hold, and I was forced into the world before I was ready.

I emerged not fully formed, but searching. Hungry. Trying to understand the space I had been born into. I consumed what was around me, absorbing my surroundings, learning quickly that I did not belong in the way others did. The community that surrounded me was tight, rigid, and intolerant of difference. It was not built for growth or change — only for obedience and silence.

Outwardly, I looked the same. I wore the same colours, the same markings, learned the same behaviours. But inside me lived something else entirely — a quiet knowing, a pull toward freedom. A need to be myself. To express who I was, and to love in the way I was born to love.

This is the story of that becoming.
